So McCain has made the proposal to Obama to postpone the debate and help in Washington.

--

My initial views are that this is a McCain tactic to deter Obama from his schedule and routine.  He's done this in the past with inviting him to Townhall meetings, and I think the public would have loved to see the two of them on stage together.  Points for McCain.  But this was over doing it a little bit and in this we see McCain's strategy.

I agree that our Senators should be working right now and helping to solve this crisis... as my mom said, we are paying for them to be Senators right now, and they are taking a leave of absence.  They do have work to do in Washington.  But I figure, there's plenty of others in Washington who can handle it without these two, becuase like Obama has said in forty days we will know who will be the next man responsible to clean this mess up.

We're screwed.

Town Halls

FLAND... I am with ya on the town halls. What was Obama scared of, besides being eaten alive? If he would have agreed to sharing the stage with McCain already in a town hall or an informal debate, we wouldn't be so uncomfortable with the idea of the postponement of the first debate. However, I feel that we need to see these men on the same stage and now. Voting "present" in Washington isn't going to help anyone's cause, which is what both of them are going to do. Weasel their way out of a concise opinion.

WALLY... I agree with you. No one needs to be in their office to work anymore. E-mails, instant messages and webcams will be plenty sufficient until the debate is over. Which is about to start, so i gotta go!

No Real Need to be There

In this day and age of cellphones, computer's, Blackberry's etc, both candidates can stay well informed and make clear their positions without having to physically be in Washington.

What a surprise that earlier today there seemed to be movement toward an agreement but once the candidates came on the scene everything fell apart.

As far as the bailout goes, I hate that it has come to this but we really need to understand the implications of what will happen if a bailout doesn't happen and how that will effect confidence or lack of confidence in our economy and the world markets.

Yes there are plenty of others who can do it, but its almost inevitable that one of these men will be president. They should be on record with which way they are going to go with the bailout. Are they going to side with the American people and say NO to the bailout or are they going to side with business as usual and vote YES? Or will they take the cowards way out and NOT vote at all? My guess is the Not Vote. This issue will surely put to test who is a leader and who is a phoney.

Personally I think that the debate should be cancelled or postponed to another time until both have had sufficient time to prepare after dealing with this crises.

I still can't figure out why Obama declined all those invitations to Town Hall debates all across America. He never accepted a single one. Why? Was he afraid?
